A meditation and contemplation laboratory
with Andrea Boni
Soft like Cotton – Sharp like Steel is a practical laboratory dedicated to Meditation and Inner Contemplation, both relevant tools to build up a loving relationship with our own Self and pour new fuel into our daily life. The intention is to teach students how to approach meditation with ease and renewed motivation by expanding a sense of proximity with their inner Heart as the closest companion in life. In other words, meditation is more similar to a relationship with our Inner Love than just a technique to be performed.
On the other hand, Inner Contemplation is a practical way to observe life in all its multiple facets and find ways to make good use of our own mind. The Upanishads suggest a five step process to analyze problems or events that cause a hardening in our vision of life, giving rise to a new perspective.
For this reason students are asked to take time and reflect in advance on a specific unresolved issue that is still causing them pain or confusion. This will be the ground for their contemplation process throughout the course of the workshop.
The subtle play between meditation and contemplation makes life a stage for joyful exploration and soft inner expansion.
Friday night will be devoted to exploring the basics of yoga meditation practice and on Saturday we will step deeper into the practise.

Philosophy
Through the spoken word, the body, colors and form, the artist talks with the world. He/she creates beauty and reveals it to observing eyes. In Sanskrit the essence of beauty is called Sri and it represents abundance, dignity and the sacred. As John Friend says, in the practice of yoga we confront the body and the emotions that emerge freely, celebrating in this way the uniqueness and diversity of artistic expression in movement. It is a balance between forces. It means recognizing our points of weakness but, also the explosion of grace which happens in some other place within us at the same time. Each position is an opportunity to enact our personal learning and concurrently communicate in a creative manner with our bodies. Who are we? What are we? What is our relationship with the world? The technique of each asana, done with a precise alignment, is an important aspect of the practice but it risks taking away from yoga a large part of its significance if it becomes the only aspect of it. The other side is the poetic expression, which is intrinsic to every position, in which the body loses the separation between the Self and the space that surrounds it, losing itself in its true nature which is silence and expressive joy. In this way, the poses are a vehicle which brings subtle changes in our awareness. Forward poses open us to the emotion of abandonment and giving oneself. Backward poses speak to us of new horizons full of treasures. Each one of our senses is a doorway to experiencing the heart.
